By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe key concepts of Adaptive Information Processing theory and how it intersects with Queer Theory

  • Describe key concepts and terms related to working with transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people

  • Identify and distinguish variance in gender identity, gender expression, sex, and sexual orientation

  • Describe two major theories for conceptualizing gender dysphoria (GD)

  • Describe the treatment of distress related to gender dysphoria from an Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) perspective

  • Implement an EMDR model for reducing gender dysphoria distress in TGD person

  • Integrate learning into advocacy practices for TGD clients (e.g., writing WPATH letters)

Presenter

Michael P. Kuffel

Michael Kuffel (they/them) is the owner of New Leaf Counseling and Queer EMDR in Boise, Idaho. They are licensed as a LCPC in Idaho and a LMHC in Washington. They are genderqueer, bisexual, and neurodivergent. Michael has 9 years of clinical mental health experience and brings advanced training and experience working from an anti-oppression lens with the LGBTQIAP2S+ community and other marginalized groups. They completed their EMDR Basic Training in 2017, was EMDRIA-certified in 2020, and became an EMDRIA Approved Consultant in 2021. As an EMDR consultant and trainer, Michael is passionate about teaching EMDR in an accessible and compassionate way and guiding learners to become self-aware, competent EMDR therapists.

By Registering for this Training, You Acknowledge and Agree to the Following:

  • Attendance: Participants must be present at the entire training

  • Eligibility: This training is only available to clinicians who have completed an EMDRIA-approved Foundational/Basic Training

  • Payment: Payment is due at the time of registration. A sliding scale fee is available for clinicians and/or student interns who have demonstratable financial need.

  • Professionalism: Participants agree to attend the full training, arrive on time, and be fully present. You agree to take full responsibility for addressing your needs in the area of grounding and self-care during the training
